“MICHA: THE PROTECTOR”
In the late 1960’s, a man mountain began to make his way in the world of football.
No, it wasn’t ‘Big Mick’ Nolan,,who was already becoming a household name. It was ‘Big Micka’, a lad of similar-sized girth and heart. He was to strut the stage of local sport for nigh on 20 years.

BALF: MOYHU’S PILLAR OF DEFENCE.
It’s a scenario that’s played out each winter Saturday, on ovals throughout the nation………
The game’s in the balance……… Less than a kick separates the two sides. The veteran coach, pupils bulging, veins protruding, pleads with his charges. He glances up at the whiteboard and states the obvious……..

” BOB COMENSOLI - TOO TOUGH TO DIE……”
Bob Comensoli was more than handy with his dooks. I was barely a teen-ager, the night he retained his Riverina middle-weight title in March 1961. Fans in the packed Richardson Stand at the Wangaratta Showgrounds threw their support behind the local boy, as he went to work against Holbrook’s Basil Gason on a floodlit, makeshift centre ring.

“Dan ! How ya goin’ ”.
There’s a pregnant pause on the end of the line, followed by a muffled, querulous : “Who’ve I got here ?”.

“Ah… KB….To be quite honest, I’ve been on the drink this week-end……Relaxin’…..I’m pretty good at that, you know…………”

It’s 1958…….. Wangaratta Rovers have assembled a classy line-up, which is on the verge of premiership glory…….
Attention focuses on Bobby Rose, the champ wearing the Brown and Gold Number 1 guernsey, who has guided the Hawks from irrelevance to become an O & M power.

LIONEL SCHUTT - THE JOURNEYMAN
Hey…. There’s an upset brewing here. The 200/1 outsiders conceded 3 goals in the first few minutes of the match, yet have shot to a 3-goal lead at ½ time.
