THE Rural City of Wangaratta has dispersed $140,000 to support 29 local community groups and not-for-profit organisations through the annual Community Grants Program.
These funds will enable organisations to host events, provide essential training, and make crucial equipment and infrastructure improvements.
The program aims to help community organisations within the Rural City of Wangaratta deliver projects that help improve accessibility and equity, provide cultural or arts
experiences, increase community resilience, safety, mental health and wellbeing, or encourage healthy behaviours and environmentally sustainable projects.
Wangaratta Mayor Dean Rees said he was impressed by the wide range of projects that are being funded this year.
"We have consistently received an enthusiastic response from our community for these grants, and this year proved to be no exception," he said.
"We've encountered some excellent ideas within these projects, and it is an honour to provide our support to help bring about impactful outcomes for our community."
Through council's latest funding initiative, 12 urban and 17 rural community-based organisations are set to benefit.
These grants will provide crucial support to diverse projects, including the Wangaratta Cycling Club's learn-to-ride program and Glenrowan Our Town's Carols by Candlelight event.
“The program supports community organisations to develop and deliver projects, programs and events which benefit, enhance and meet the needs of the community.” Andrea Noble, community group officer, said.
