GRETA has won its second A-grade netball premiership in three years after a gutsy six-goal triumph against a gallant Milawa at W.J. Findlay Oval on Saturday.
The Blues, who won in 2010 but lost last year’s mantle to Whorouly, saluted 50-44 to win their 22nd premiership since 1959.
First-year Greta coach Jodie Ramage paid tribute to the fighting spirit of her side.
“It was one of those ones where anything could happen,” Ramage said.
“The girls had such a good first half then Milawa started to catch up on us.
“They certainly came back at us after half-time.”
Greta goal defence Rebecca Duryea, who finished runner-up behind Moyhu’s Jenna McLeod in the Fay Morgan Medal, was best for the Blues, while Susan Ginnivan, at goal shooter, and Kelly Smith, at wing attack and centre, were also sensational for the winners.
Lindsey Tanner and Ginnivan both shot 25 goals for the Blues, while Emily Canny shot 29 and Jami Hunt 15 for the Demons.
Milawa’s best included Kate Finnigan, Sarah Clarke and Marsha McMonigle.
Ramage couldn’t fault her side.
“The girls played really well as a team,” Ramage said.
“They put it all together on the day which was great.”
Milawa didn’t go home empty-handed, however, winning the B-grade and C-grade premierships.
Tarrawingee won the C-reserve grand final.
