WHILE Bright has been having a tough run of luck on the court in 2012, its young brigade of netballers have been a shining light for the club.
The C grade side sits second on the ladder and is a real contender for a premiership, while plenty of youngsters have been playing up in grades which will be a vital learning curve for their future development.
Earlier in the season Bella Losch-Hickey and Bek Lebish were picked to represent the Ovens and King Netball League in the under 17 interleague clashes at Barooga.
The Bright P-12 College students tried out among a number of their peers and were successfully handed a representative bib.
For the pint sized Losch-Hickey, the day was her first opportunity to come up against players in her age bracket after playing in Bright's B reserve side this season.
Coach Jess Giollo said Losch-Hickey was a standout performer for her side, dominating her position in centre court and wing attack.
"She's been best on most weeks, so she's one of the better players and probably looking at getting the best and fairest," she said.
Giollo believes her young star has plenty of potential to excel in the sport as she gains experience.
"There is a lot of potential for her to go further," she said.
"She was still eligible to play C grade, but she was picked for the senior squad and she's having a great year.
"This year she's only played games in B-reserve, but she did have a few games in B grade subbing last year and that's why she was picked for the senior squad, because we could tell that she was more than capable."
Lebish plays in a different team and position to Losch-Hickey each Saturday, but has a similar impact according to C grade coach Kerri Chalwell.
The defender has been one of the main reasons her side has faired so well in the competition this season.
"She's winning the Media Award at the moment from the opposition coaches and she's probably our most important player," Chalwell said.
"Her discipline has improved heaps this year."
