KEY Lions recruit Kyle Archibald will renew hostilities with an old foe in Saturday’s blockbuster Ovens and King clash against King Valley at Whorouly.
The former Yarrawonga big man will line up against former Wodonga defender Adam Williams, who has been outstanding in his three games since joining the Roos from Jerilderie.
Archibald, who has been used mainly in the ruck and forward, said he was looking forward to crossing paths with Williams, who had been a standout as a midfielder for the Roos.
“I have had a couple of tussles against Adam Williams,” Archibald, 26, said.
“He’s a very experienced player.
“(But) you can’t get too narrow minded in trying to shut him down.”
Williams said restricting the influence of Archibald, who had booted 10 goals in his three games, would be crucial.
“Kyle and I have run into each other a few times,” Williams, 33, said.
“He’s aggressive at the footy and tough.”
Former Richmond rookie Archibald joined Whorouly to play with brother-in-law Lance Warr, who is married to his sister Renee and hasn’t looked back.
He said he was comfortable with his decision to leave Yarrawonga after playing in the Pigeons’ past three grand final losses to the Albury Tigers.
“I’m loving it at the moment,” Archibald said.
“It’s a great club with great people.”
Williams, a vet in Wangaratta, is equally happy with his decision to leave Picola club Jerilderie for the Whitfield-based Roos.
Elsewhere, Greta will look to turn around its disastrous start to the season when it travels to Milawa.
The Blues are winless and with games against the Demons and Whorouly to come in the next two rounds, could find themselves 0-5.
In other games, Bonnie Doon should win at home against Glenrowan; Tarrawingee will look to bounce back from its loss to Milawa when it travels to Benalla All Blacks; Moyhu will win at home to Goorambat; Bright faces a tough trip to North Wangaratta and Tatong should win at home against Swanpool.
