WANGARATTA Rovers' makeshift forward line has received a timely boost, with livewire forward Daniel McCullough (pictured right) landing in the Hawks' nest this week.
McCullough, 23, has been regarded as one of the most prodigious talents in the Ovens and King Football League over the past four seasons, twice finishing runner up in Tarrawingee's best and fairest award.
After starting his football career at Wangaratta Magpies, McCullough fielded several offers to return to the OandM, and said the time was now right.
"I was considering going back to the OandM last year," he said.
"But I ended up going overseas, but with the amount of work you need to do to prepare, by the time I got back I didn't have the time.
"I have been wanting to challenge myself to make the step up to a higher standard of football, and I just feel like now is the time for me to do that."
Having played senior football at Wangaratta, McCullough knows what to expect, and said he was relishing the heavier workload.
"Compared to OandK the training is a lot more full on," he said.
"In the OandK the pre-Christmas training was fairly laid back, then you would get into the real stuff after the break.
"At Rovers we got straight into it, doing three days a week.
"It's been really enjoyable Mick (Caruso) has a lot of variety in what he does.
"OandM is a much faster, more intense kind of football, so you really need to be in shape.
"At the moment my fitness is fine it will get tougher again after Christmas, but I'm looking forward to it."
