Official Match Report
From the start we anticipated a good game from Maribyrnong Park, notorious as a strong team with good ethics. Our game plan for the first quarter was to get numbers to the ball and look for opportunity in the 1 percenters in shepherding, passing, tackling and punching the ball out. The boys kept the pressure on their opposition and the ball stayed within our 50m for a good percentage of the quarter. Maribyrnong Park still put up a good defence and stifled our score to a goal and a behind at the end of the first quarter, with only a single point to our opponent.
The 2nd quarter, with the same game plan and determination by our boys, saw the half time scores at 3.2.20 to 0.1.1, our way, but didn't reflect the consistent fight up and down the field that our opposition placed on us, and ultimately tiring the boys a little.
The 3rd quarter had the Marby Lions fighting back into the game, with a quick succession of scores from a behind and then two goals, bringing the score level for a good part of quarter. With a refreshed confidence the Marby Lions were in attack and we had to tighten our defence. A late goal restored some of our own confidence as the quarter ended with us 6 points up.
A rev up at the break from the coach to go for the ball, stay in position, ensure no loose men and for the back line not to push up into the play saw a hard fought win for our boys.
Both sided put on a display of fair and worthy play which kept spectators interested until the last minutes. Good work boys.
