We welcome the Yarroweyah Football Netball Club today to what we hope will be a great day of football and netball.
With our 125 year reunion fast approaching all rsvp's are due back by the 30th June to either TFNC PO Box 1 Tocumwal or tfnc@live.com.au If by chance you haven't received an invite but would love to attend please see Deb on Thursday night or in the office on Saturday for an invitation. This is shaping up to be a great back to weekend.
Under 14's -Taking into account some late withdrawals and an improved Berrigan team since last time we played, the junior Bloods did a pretty good job in most areas of last Saturday's game. Pretty important to focus on our game plan and continuing to improve rather than be focused on the results. Well done boys.
Under 17's -Well done boys for a great effort. Dylan Maxwell and Drew Eddy had great games down back. Will Hatty and Jay Buckley had awesome games in the centre, Seth Wilmot had his best game this year. Big game this weekend boys.
Reserves - A do or die away match against Berrigan turned into a dour struggle and a much contested game of football.
Berrigan started well and spent the vast majority of the game in their forward fifty. The second quarter began with the Bloods getting back into the game, our leading goal kicker Bob Bourke, taking two fine contested marks and converting to give us a slender 3 point half time lead. The last half was a hard fought affair with both teams defending strongly. Taking two contested marks and running the ball into our forward fifty Bob Bourke was able to mark and convert giving us the lead at three quarter time. The Bloods midfield in Jordan Poynton, Glyn Matters and Tim Brunskill pushing through fatigue to defend our lead in the last quarter and were largely responsible for us hanging on. This was a serious team effort in a gutsy 11 point victory.
Seniors -The Bloods made their way over to Berrigan to try get some revenge on the round 1 Good Friday loss. From the onset it was always going to be a tight contest. Both teams were going forward regularly but couldn't convert. Matt Petersen was great from early on, racking up possessions and keeping Tocumwal in the game. First gamer Tom Whytcross didn't look out of place and held his own on the halfback flank, while a corked leg stopped gun onballer Jack Fogarty from continuing his impressive form. Berrigan had a handy 2 goal buffer for most part of the day. The Tocumwal offence was not potent enough and the injuries started to take a toll on the group. Keith Baron and Ollie Rennie battled hard all day but in the end the Berrigan group had more polish and got the four points.
Netball -A huge milestone this week for Jacinta Brunskill who plays her 150th club game, this has been a great achievement considering it has taken 9 - 10 years and two babies to get there. Well done Jacinta. Also congratulations to Cheryl Mears who is relatively new to our club, playing her 50 C Reserve game today, well done Cheryl.
