Wow what a weekend of football and netball. What a great weekend for the club - winning all games of netball and football. A first for the Tocumwal Football Netball Club. Well done to everyone that contributed to this great feat.
A little bit of housekeeping - All player memberships are now due. Remember NO Membership No Insurance. Please see Deb in the office and finalise these memberships.
Also we have been asked by the league to remove anyone that isn't involved in match duties away from the coaches/players box during the games. All spectators should be behind the fence, we would hate to see someone bowled over by a footballer flying over the boundary.
I (Deb Garlick) would also like to personally thank Helen Barker for fulfilling by match day duties last Saturday at Yarroweyah. Thanks once again Helen, a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders when you agreed to help out at such short notice.
Under 14's - With a few boys missing due to school holidays, the coach asked some of the younger boys to step up and that's certainly what they did. Hayden, Chase and Braydie's run was fantastic, creating space and targets from start to finish. The boys are playing to instruction and producing some great footy, if they continue to work hard, more success will follow.
Under 17's -Congratulations to the Under 17's in their first win for the year. All the boys played well especially Cam Bowdern and James Balcombe, kicking 11 goals each. Jesse Barker was consistent throughout the whole game and really brought the team together.
Reserves -What a great week to be able to coach The Magoos. With limited numbers, and having called on a couple of oldies, everyone pulled together and played outstanding. Bobby Bourke was a fantastic option in the forward line and Andy Blackbourn played a great game in the middle of the ground. Great team effort by everyone. A huge thank you to the Under 17 players who stepped up to help out this week.
Seniors -After a disappointing last quarter against Berrigan in Round 1 the Bloods travelled to Yarroweyah to get their first points on the board. The first quarter saw both teams fighting hard to get an early lead. After a missed shot from the Bloods, Yarroweyah was able to rebound the ball from their backline and drive it forward resulting in 6 points. From here Tocumwal's recruits and young guns stood up, Max Brooks was able to find the football and create some space around him resulting in a couple of goals. Troy Poynton was strong providing the Bloods with a target up forward. End of the first quarter saw Tocumwal up 32 to Yarroweyah 14. The second quarter was an even term with both teams registering 2 goals apiece. After a half time rev up from the coaches, Sean Logie and Dane Maxwell, the Bloods found some form in the third quarter. On ballers Steve Patten and Jacob Hore gave their team plenty of drive and provided Tocumwal forwards plenty of opportunity to bang goals on. In the last quarter the Bloods lifted again, Dylan Flanagan and Max Brooks both finished with 3 goals each, Troy Poynton and Steve Patten with 4 goals each.
